Ighnot here again. The last time I posted it was to the "I'm a n00b" thread to let you know that I exist. Since then, I was sent away on a two-month trip to Robins AFB, Georgia, for some school. I've been back a couple of weeks.

Now that I'm back, I'm ready to come to my first UCFGaming event. This next one at the Marketplace on the 15th of April looks promising, and I've signed up. But--

I haven't been to Orlando. I live in Palm Bay, and I'm told that I'll have to drive at least an hour and a half to get to this thing. I plan to MapQuest the UCF campus and see how I fare. I'm sure I can find the place. I just need some help finding this "Marketplace" so I can roll up with my gear and my ten bucks and actually be at the right building. :)

Any advice on how to find the Marketplace?

And by the way-- what games really end up getting played the most at your LAN parties? I've been playing more Quake3 lately, but something tells me no one's going to care about that. Should I go out and get a copy of UT2004? I realize there are threads in these forums that tell what games are being played, but I'd like some opinions from you as to what games really weigh in.

Thanks, and I'll see you on the 15th!

heres the easiest possible way for you to get here. i know cause im from palm bay as well.

take 95north. get off in titusville on 50. head west (turn left) stay on that for a long long time. youll go under an overpass and then your almost there. 2 or 3 redlights down its alafaya and youll be turning right (youll see a big ramada hotel on the right side). youll go down for like a mile. youll pass 3 redlights. on the 4th turn right (central florida blvd i think) and then follow the directs that bucu.

fastest way:
95 north. get off on 528 westbound second cocoa exit. then get off on 520. 25cent toll. head north west. stay on left side after gas station and merge into 50 west. and then follow the other directions from there.
Let the strength of your words be the spark that ignites the flame.

You goons are missing the point. He needs to know how to get TO the marketplace THROUGH UCF. Not how to get to UCF... nubs...

To get to the Marketplace, it's very simple. Go in the main entrance of UCF (the corner of University Blvd and Alafaya Tr). Take a right at the stoplight INSIDE UCF (not at the Univ, Alafaya intersection). You're going to go through TWO stop signs. After the second stop sign keep an eye out to the left. You'll see a parking garage. You can either park in there (and have better luck with parking) or try the parking lot across from the gym. If you opt to go to other parking lot, then continue, past the stop light in front of the gym, and take the next possible left into the parking lot. If you walk AWAY from the gym, on the side walk in between the parking garage and the parking lot, you'll see the Marketplace as the first building on your left (directly behind the parking lot). If you get lost, ask anybody you see, because everyone at one point or another has eaten at the marketshi---err marketplace.

Depending on where you enter the campus, it can be any number of directions. If you park on campus, be prepared to shell out $3 for parking (or risk a $25 ticket) no matter where you park.

That said, there's a huge garage right next to the marketplace. This is the South Garage. If you take University Blvd. into campus (the easiest route to find from any direction) you'll need to take a right at the first light once past the big UCF sign. Follow that road. At the next light (there are a few stop signs, but there's a light at the turn you need to take) take a left. This is the approach to the South Garage.Park anywhere you can find a spot. $3 day passes are available in the little yellow boxlike devices, usually situated in the corners of the garage. They take credit/debit cards as well as cash. Get your pass, slap it on your dash, and the marketplace will be in the building to the left of where you came in. (this is if the parking garage is at your back.)

Chances are, before you get lost, you'll be able to pick up a good, strong trail of B.O. or you'll see someone hauling their rig to the marketplace.

NOTE: There aren't elevators in the garages. Anywhere. However, there are a few members who wouldn't mind helping you carry your stuff to the marketplace.

I tank y00 to evYbody and tee u der.

I was worried about finding the venue once I got to campus. I appreciate all of the help! Maybe before the event I can hook up with one of you Palm Bayers and just follow j00 and we can help each other get all our respective crap into the place.

I'm a bit embarassed about my rig... I never really bought into any of that case modding stuff, although I admit it's starting to sort of temp me (I'd probably do something kind of neat and conservative-looking, like a lit fan, mabye, or perhaps a smallish window), so the thing's already a bit plain-looking. The real embarassment is in the age of my stuff... Asus A7N8X ver2, AMD AthlonXP 2600+, a Gig of 333Mhz RAM, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128M, multiple slow hard drives hodge-podged together over the years and this one SATA drive I'm using for my most modern games... I could do worse, certainly, but I'm really feeling the age of this thing when I play EQ2. I've heard EQ2 chokes the most modern stuff, so I know that's really not a benchmark, but still.

I could manage a modest upgrade before the 15th, I think. During my time in Germany I didn't keep up with advances very well-- internet vendors wouldn't ship to my particular APO and the local stores were PATHETICALLY behind and overcharged, so I sort of let my "currency" slip. Now that I'm back and able to order stuff online once again, I'm dizzied by how far things have come and how expensive things are.

Well, two days ago I injured myself during a workout and now the area between my shoulderblades feels like a paring knife is lodged in it. It only hurts when I exist. I tried playing some stuff and of course the shit tightened up like a corset.

I'm pissed.

Also, despite all of my efforts (and I'm pretty computer-literate), I CANNOT get UT2004 to install. That leaves HL2 DM and CS Source, both of which I have, as well as BF1942. (The problem with BF1942 is I only have the original release version. I never bought any of those nifty expansions for it because there weren't LAN parties big enough in Germany and my internet connection made it crappy online. I do have the downloadable expansions for it, but none of that secret weapons stuff or any of the other stuff that came out for it since release... What files do you recommend I download that are free? I have desert combat installed, and that's it.) So, I still have some games I can play.

The HL games, while good, aren't really my favorites. I really had my heart set on playing UT2004 with you guys, and it won't install. I have a feeling you people will be hitting that more often than BF1942, but who knows. There ARE close to 60 people on the list as it stands... I'm sure people will be playing lots of stuff. I still have enough in terms of games and the machine to make it a fun night. I'm just venting about the "no UT2004" issue...

Even if the "games I have ready" situation were better, I have to think about lugging my heavy-ass shit with this sudden back problem, and trying to play all night with the pain. So I'm taking my name off the list and if I feel better this evening I'll come down. Sorry for flaking out. One thing I can tell you for sure is if I come I'll be lugging the 17" Sony, and NOT the 19"...

Sorry for the long, rambling, train-of-thought post, but I just need a place to talk about it. I was really looking forward to this.
