May 20th – 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Student Union 218 ABCD
The Sun is Melting My Skin Off LAN

Welcome to the first LAN Party for this summer semester. Everyone knows what summer is about: swimming at the beach, cooking hot dogs, playing football, suffering from heat stroke, and playing video games! With temperatures expected reach well above 600 degrees in every single scale for temperature at the same time, there’s no better way to spend your summer vacation than by “not bursting into flames in the open daylight”. So take a day off from work and join us on TUESDAY, May 29th join us on SUNDAY, May 20th! WON’T YOU BE GLAD TO NOT BE OUTSIDE?

This LAN will serve as a trial run for future LAN parties; Liandri will be there, and will go through a scheduled list of games to host, but there won’t be an official gameslist! Talk with your friends before you arrive, invite them to the LAN, sit near them, and PLAY GAMES THAT YOU LIKE WITHOUT BEING HOUNDED BY ELITISTS. HAVE FUN. INSIDE. SAFELY PROTECTED FROM THE SUN. Want to layabout and play SC2 with your buddies? Feel free! World of Tanks? Sure! DOTA 2? Go ahead! Debate over whether DOTA or Dota is academically accepted? THAT ISN’T A VIDEO GAME, BUT IF YOU ENJOY DOING THAT SORT OF ACTIVITY WITH MULTIPLE PERSONS THAT IS OKAY AS LONG AS EVERYONE PARTICIPATING IS IN THE ROOM AND SITTING NEAR EACH OTHER.

More information on prizes and activities at the LAN, including a list on what games Liandri will go through and what SPF sunscreen you should wear, will be added later.

I'll do my best to be there...though it's very highly dependent on my situation for the week...and if i have a job by then.

Is this the Diablo III LAN?

Also that is only like 6 hours of gaming. With an hour setup, and close down (normally 30 minutes, but both can run longer), not including a break to get dinner. :/

No chance of a Saturday?

We don't have anything planned involving Diablo III.

We actually have the room booked from 11 AM, when the Union opens. We'll start setting up then, so you do have that extra hour. Unless it actually takes you an hour to set your computer up.

You really wouldn't get too much out of moving this to a Saturday; the Student Union closes at 8 PM on both Saturday and Sunday, though it does open up 2 hours earlier. I'm not sure that we'll get very many people willing to show up that early on a Saturday.

Saturday trumps Sunday every time, especially if it can run later. Sunday you have to combat church/family/football.

Except it can't run later. Union's closed at 8 on both days.

We have the schedule for Liandri!

12:00-1:30, Regular TF2
1:30-3:00, TF2 Blind Frag
3:00-4:00, Shattered Horizon
4:00-5:00, Killing Floor
5:00-6:00, HL2 DM
6:00-7:00, UT2K4
7:00-8:00, nothing

Remember that TF2 BF starts at 1:30, with signups ending at 1, and SC2 starts at 3, with signups ending at 2:30.

I may go if there are people playing Diablo 3, Torchlight 2, or CS:GO. Basically things not on the list

Only seven people rvsp looks it might not be a great turnout. If I go I might bring a friend who wants to play tf2, but might not be worth the long drive.

Hey, like I said this is just what the server is going through. You're more than welcome to play whatever you want.

Yeah, I guess the game list might be need to be re-evaluated based on who is going. If 8 people show up, and play what they want, and it is none of those games listed... :/

My point was the schedule (which is a games list whether you call it that or not), does not appear to reflect what anyone is going to play on Sunday. Rather than stick to it, it might be better to see what the 8 people want to play, and then hopefully their choices can draw in a bigger crowd (or maybe their friends will want to come). My overall point is, it seems pointless for a server to run empty if no one is going to play on it.

The server list isn't a list of things you should be playing, it's a list of what we can have the server there running. It isn't the most viable thing to use the server for certain games, believe it or not. Games like SC2, Tribes:Ascend, and DOTA2 are all pretty popular in the club, but either they don't require a dedicated server or have such low player counts it doesn't make sense to advertise the server as being used strictly for these games. We can have a low player game running on the server at the same time as a larger game, if someone wants to do that, and we can get someone to set the server up to do so, but I don't think it makes sense to advertise them on the schedule. The schedule serves to show the larger player count games available that Liandri can run. It might turn out that we hit a point in the schedule when the server is supposed to switch to another game, but I goofed and picked something no one really wants to play (maybe following UT2K4 with HL2DM, for example), so then we might keep going with the other game. I don't know why you're assuming this thing is meant to be super rigid.
