Things have changed since I first started this thread but I decided to just edit this post and update. I'm upgrading my rig. Already got a new PSU, SSD, and GTX 570. Sold some old parts already. Left I have my old cpu, mobo and ram. I would like to sell them together preferably.

Desktop Parts:
Asus M3N72D Motherboard - $60
4gb ddr2 ram - $20
Phenom II X4 945 3ghz CPU - $90
Total: $170

My new upgrade:
Mobo: http://www.amazon.co...38402434&sr=8-1
CPU: http://www.amazon.co...38260279&sr=8-1
RAM: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16820231314
Any thoughts on that?

So I've come to the decision that while having the portability of a laptop can be really nice, I don't use it enough for me personally to have to split my money between 2 computers. So, I'm upgrading my desktop and selling my laptop.

So I'm Selling:

Desktop Parts:
Asus M3N72D Motherboard - $60
4gb ddr2 ram - $20
Radeon hd 5770 (sapphire) - $90
450W psu - $20

Laptop
Alienware m14x (14" screen)
i7 cpu @ 2ghz
6gb ram
750gb hd
gt 555m grphx card
Includes TactX Headset and Orion Backpack
Like New condition, with box, manuals and all
$1200

My new upgrade:
Mobo: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16813131736
PSU: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16817341017
RAM: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16820233170
GPU: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814130768 (Whenever it's back in stock. Anyone have an idea when that might be by the way?)
Any thoughts? Better choices, compatibility? (My cpu is a Phenom II X4 3ghz btw)
And my goal is to be able to run most games at the highest settings for over a year, at 1080p, and in 3d(720p). I know that the 680 might be a bit overkill at the moment but I'd rather not be behind a generation.

I'm not going to comment on the parts you are selling (considering the majority of them used to be mine when I sold them to you xD ).

Anyway, for the new parts, a few comments. STAY AWAY FROM THE NEW AMD STUFF. Seriously, it's not worth it. The quality of their parts has gone down recently and if you ever plan on getting one of the new AMD CPU's, you will be in for a big disappointment. I'm not sure what you're budget is, however, I recommend breaking down and grabbing a Sandy Bridge CPU (preferably the i5 unless you really need the performance from the i7 with hyper-threading); the performance gains you will find on that compared to what you have now will be amazing.

The above should be a nice list. I changed the power supply to a Corsair 650 watt; for a few dollars more, the extra reliability that Corsair is really known for is nice. I also changed the 680 to a 580 because while the increased performance in the 680 is nice, you'd still have to wait for the supply to come back in (and they are in very high demand at the moment) and honestly, you shouldn't have any problems with any games for awhile with a single 580.

The list might seem a tad bit expensive (comes in at around $925 before shipping), but it will be well worth it if you truly want to be able to play future games for a few years with the settings cranked up.

I am actually selling some RAM right now. I am selling the G.SKILL RipJaws X series 2 x 4GB at 1866MHz. They literally perform the same as the ones you are going to buy and I'm selling them at $50.

I would definately suggest waiting for Ivy Bridge. They are supposed to be more power efficient, offer a little bit more performance and will use the new 3d transitor achitecture.

So it sounds like if I can manage to wait a bit, I can get Ivy Bridge plus the 680 will be back in stock and I will get max performance, but probably at the cost of $100-200 more than if I buy now, with a 580 and i5 which will still have great performance and would be a bit cheaper. That sound about right?

I think the M14x is worth less than $1,000. It is no longer manufactured (Dell cut it from it's line this year). Also I see it going on eBay for under 1,200 it looks like. I think it was like 1,200 for a new one (correct me if I am wrong), so I don't think you are going to get a 'new price' for a laptop that is used and no longer supported with updates/drivers.

Everything you just said is completely wrong. The m11x and m15x were discontinued, not m14x. It was $1600 new.

This might be dead but everything seems good. I had ripjaws and never had any issues with em. My buddy has an ASRock mobo and likes it. The 3570k does have some cooling issues so if you're not planning on overclocking you should be "ok" with the stock heatsink. But if you're gonna get a 680 i would recommend getting a Gold Plus PSU. It's worth the extra bills IMO.
I give up.
