Messer raises a good point. We do need a thread for Warhammer questions. Any questions you might have about everyone's favorite grimdark tabletop game and its related lore and games, post them here!

I bet the tabletop game is better then the PC game, and I think the lore is pretty cool. Nothin' like some space ghost zombie robots!

I'm interested in building a 1000-1500 point tau army. Does anyone have any suggested places to buy models at a discount?
What does it matter how I loose it?

Ebay. Or amazon. Either place you can usually get brand new kits for 25-30% off the games workshop retail prices. Though for tau you may want to wait, Korbaton would know better but I think they're supposed to be getting a new codex, and thus overhauled models, soonish?

Agreed, eBay is the best place for purchasing models. Earlier in the year I picked up about 1500 points of IG Steel Legion for 50% of retail price.

I've read rumors regarding the release of the Tau codex. Supposedly it's going to be one of the earlier 6th ed. codices, possibly the 2nd or 3rd one released. Then again it's just a rumor; I don't think anybody has a clear idea of when it'll be out.

That is the correct rumor. The next three 40k codices are, in no particular order:

Chaos Legions. The CL codex will have deeper documentation on Chaos Space Marines, expanding on the piece of shit that was the original codex. Supposedly, more options will be added for Chaos God-aligned Marines, along with the return of some special characters that were removed in earlier editions.

Tau. Everyone's favorite weeaboo pheromone-controlled peaceniks. Considering that the Tau are the last 3rd edition codex, I would assume that they'll be an overhaul of the same degree as Necrons, though hopefully not in terms of the lore changing gears.

Eldar. While I may not often play against the poncy space elves, everyone that plays them knows that they need a little love, too. Their codex is stagnant at the barrier of 3rd and 4th editions, and I would expect significant advances in their lore, considering Eldrad Ulthran is lost in the Warp as of the Eye of Terror campaign, and they have perhaps one other non-Phoenix Lord special character.

If one wants to consider rumors that have been taken with a grain of salt, one rumor stated that the order would be Tau (5E/6E), Chaos (true 6E), Eldar (6E).

Scifi city is getting the Escalation league running again this weekend. If it goes like summer, armies start at 500 points and bump by 250 each week of competition. They say fully painted, as the idea is to get people rolling on a new army quickly, but they seemed somewhat lax about that as long as there was some painting effort.

Any more news on the next codices? I haven't looked up anything regarding purchasing models since I was last informed about the rumored Tau codex. I'm thinking I'll probably end up just getting a few models to brush up on my painting abilities, unless of course there's new info.

Still no new information. The community's not too chuffed about it, but with the WHFB Empire box set and the second wave of Necrons coming out shortly, they might move on to new things again.

Rumors have it that some time in September, though, that there is going to be a Chaos and Dark Angels set, almost like the Assault on Black Reach kit.

Right, that's all but confirmed. Gives credence to Chaos being the next codex, but it's just rumors aside from the 6E box set.

Rumors are still all over the place. It's looking more and more likely that the next closest big things for 40k are Chaos and 6th Edition(a bunch more specific rumors flying around about both today), but beyond that it gets hazy. Flyer rumors again, like last year. Though GW has announced some sort of party for a 'secret release' on June...2nd? can't remember the exact date, but it's apparently on their facebook page, that might be it.

Dark Angels are probably coming up soonish too, what with the White Dwarf spines, and them taking the place of Ultramarines in the new painting starter boxes. But there are conflicting rumors that we'll see Chaos, DA and Tau codices, in that order, this year, or that we're only going to get a new Chaos one. About the only stuff you could maybe say for certain are 6th ed and Chaos.

On the specific 6th ed rumors that are floating around, I like the idea of close combat weapons all having AP now, rather than either ignoring or granting an armor save. It never made sense to me that, after confirming a wound, a guardsman/eldar/tau smacking someone with the butt of their gun had just as much chance of getting through someone's armor as a chainsword...

That is probably my favorite change. I'm interested to see how it's going to affect my Berzerkers.

Ooh, that's nice, and about time, too.

AP-: Improvised weapons, rifle butts, laspistols

AP6: Natural close combat weapons

AP5: Bolt pistols, combat knives, basic close combat weapons

AP4: Chainswords, choppas

AP3: Inferno bolt pistols, Eldar blades, rending claws, champion CC weapons

AP2: Power weapons, power fists, plasma pistols, boneswords

AP1: Chainfists, inferno pistols, crushing claws, special anti-armour CC weapons

Are those actual leaked values or just guesses? I think AP4 chain weapons beating armor on everything that's not wearing power armor is probably a bit much and favors things like Assault marines a little too much, especially when marines are wounding most of those guys on a 3. Granted even AP5 chainswords would be shredding up guard...

Edit

Though on further thinking maybe that kind of boost for ASM wouldn't be so bad. Their biggest problem as what is ostensibly a CC unit is their piddly number of attacks, as they're still 1 base will have at most 3 on a charge if they're all pistol and chainsword. They'd still be just as iffy against marine equivalent units, but they might be worth taking if they were capable of carving through just about everything else...

Just my late-night guessing. I gave chainswords AP4 because they carve through most everything, but have trouble with power armour. Append scything talons to AP4.

I also imagine they'll add a "Piercing" rule, similar to Rending, stating "This weapon's AP value is one better than normal weapons of its type. For example, a Piercing chainsword that normally has AP4 would have AP3."

Speaking of rumors...

Big talk about flyers from the guys mentioned here

Guess we'll see if they're full of it tonight.

Edit: apparently it won't let me make a link....

Said flyers rumors. http://www.belloflos...-up-in-sky.html

Yeah, sketches, but bear in mind these are the same guys that leaked sketches and word of the Necron second wave models that came this month in the same fashion as this preview. In the actual podcast(or maybe it was elsewhere) there's speculation that with flyers 6th will have rules that differentiate them from regular skimmers properly, so rules changes might make them more survivable than they currently appear.

I like the look of the Storm Talon, I think I might have to pick one up. The deepstrike tagalong is pretty cool too.

Edit: Seriously, are tags generally disabled? Oh, but when I just paste a url in...
