Hello everybody.
I'm currently running into a potential problem with my current gaming set-up. Right now, I'm simply using a wireless mouse from Microsoft, nothing fancy really and has so far worked. However, I'm noticing that the mouse is starting to burn through batteries rather quickly and is getting less accurate and consistent over time. Ergo, I think I might be in need for a gaming mouse. Therefore, I'm trying to see what types of mice everybody uses in the club, to see what might be ideal for me. Thanks a lot.

Oh yeah, I'm also looking for something under $80.

I know myself and a few other people use the G9x. It works very well, has tons of customization options, and just overall is a nice mouse for the price.

I've always been a fan of Logitech's right handed mouses: MX 518, G5, and G500 (own all 3).

G5 and G500 are my favorites (don't like the plastic shell on the MX 518). Between the G5 or G500, I would go with whatever is cheaper. Unless you really need a super higher DPI, then go with the G500 (usually on sale ever few months for around $30-40 with/without rebate).

I heard they were comparable to Razer's right handed mouse called Deathadder, but I haven't tried it before. Most likely never will. I used one of those Razer ambidextrous mouse once before and never looked back haha.

=========

At the end of the day though, it comes down to actual player skill than what mouse he is using. I just prefer my mouse to have more features than the plain $5-10 Microsoft ones that people seem to love so much.

I <3 my Steelseries Ikari :P Don't like others too much, deathadder is good but kinda odd to hold after ikari for so long, not as ergonomical, and also I've heard can break fairly quickly if you do it wrong. Ikari has a 0 to 3200 DPI range, other customizable stuff, two well placed and small macro buttons, and a DPI toggle from one setting to another.

But it sounds like the G9x is good, haven't used it before.

Razer DeathAdder is very nice, but doesn't fit my hand perfectly. I just picked up the Logitech G300 and it is very nice, but a little light and a little small for my taste. I would say, as general rules of thumb, stay away from razer (deathadder is the only exception), don't buy something too small (good to see it in person first), and go with wired over wireless (better bang for buck for sure).

I have an imperator which has been working flawlessly for the better part of the past 10 months I've had it. Recently though it's become somewhat picky and it keeps double-clicking when it's not supposed to, but it only happens on my desktop and not my laptop so I'm assuming it's a problem with ze desktop. Other than that, great mouse and the shape of the mouse fits in my hand perfectly. Took some getting used to, but after a few weeks it's perfect.

G9 r bestests. I've had a G9 for about 3 years now and I have no plans on switching.

However, a lot of your decision making should come down to how you like to hold your mouse. The G9 and G9x have a different feel than most mice, however I know of plenty of people who like to use Deathadders from Razer.

Generally shape and feel are the most important things followed by features.

The two biggest companies to compare mouse styles are usually Razer and Logitech. Razer mice tend to be skinnier, lighter, and longer with large flat buttons and their high point more centered. Logitech mice tend to be heavier and shorter with smaller more slanted buttons and a high point placed more towards the rear of the mouse.

Everyone tends to like their own combination of these features, but in my experience people who like Logitech mice place more of their hand on the mouse itself and move the mouse less. People who like Razer mice tend to do the opposite. This tends to be related to the raised bump or high point in a mouse and their weight. You should only use these mice companies for some general specs to compare with and to make the ballpark a little smaller when searching for a style you like.

Personally I've owned three Razer mice, a copperhead and a lachesis as well as the salmosa I currently use. The copperhead was very comfortable but broke after two years. The lachesis was not very comfortable but worked fine. Now I have a Salmosa and it is better than the copperhead for what I use it for. In respect to price and overall quality you certainly should look around and not just sell yourself to Razer or Logitech. The copperhead and salmosa I got mostly because they were almost 75% off at the time and in a style I liked.

Just try out the mouse before you buy it so you don't get something uncomfortable like the abysses was for me. I knew I wasn't a fan of Logitech mice at the time, but I took the lachesis for granted because it was a Razer mouse and I associated it with a certain style. All mice are different even if they come from the same company. As far as features you don't need any more than 1600dpi and 2 extra buttons is all you really need depending on what types of games you play. Don't get sucked into the marketing and blow a bunch of money on something flashy you don't need. My Salmosa has no extra buttons, 1600 DPI, cost me 14 bucks, and I like it more than the lachesis I had which cost me something like seventy dollars at the time, had 4 extra buttons, and 5600 DPI.

I've had this mouse forever, its so good. 400dpi, and I know what you are saying, how could I ever make use of 400 dpi? that's way too much! Just trust me, once you feel such a high dpi mouse you'll never go back. It makes all the difference in performance. This mouse really shows that winning in games really just comes down to how good your mouse is. Having such a high dpi mouse really gives you the edge you need over other gamers.

EDIT: also, greatday I think you need a new keyboard, your space bar seems to be malfunctioning. Might I recommend Posted Image

I have a RAT 7 and it's great. I also used to own a Razer that was nice. I advise staying clear of Logitech, horrible quality products and terrible support.

If you have multiple 1920x1200 screens, 5700dpi is a big and proper selling point. After my G9 finally lost usage of a single thumb button after five years of hard use, I upgraded to a G9x and the jump from 3200dpi to 5700dpi has been very nice.

Personally, I've spent a large number of years using one of the earlier Logitech MX518 mouse. Only problem I ever had was after someone pointed it out to me, it corrects lines which made fine point movements harder on the higher DPI settings.

With a new computer, I tried 2 Razer mice: Naga and Deathadder. Naga I would avoid like the plague... Not even a year into it's life I ran into issues with the left click and laser, not to mention it's deceptively short after using the MX518 for years. My Deathadder though is holding strong and I would definitely recommend it.

Thanks for the advice guys, I really appreciate it. Ended up going with the Deathadder, mainly because I couldn't find the other Logitech stuff at the store I ended up shopping at and didn't want to bother with online shopping and shipping. So far, really liking the feel of it, plus my hand can comfortably hold the mouse rather than cram my hand around the minuscule Windows Wireless I was using. Thanks. :)

Good choice, the Deathadder has been my mouse of choice for a few years now and it works like a charm.

Hmm, you have a professional opinion on mice like the Ikari, Whiplash? I love it, but I wonder if it's just because it's the only one I've used aside from the regular stock mice I had before getting my setup. Just wondering what your thoughts are so I can keep an open mind and have an idea of what to look for when I need/want a new mouse :)
