I'm really really interested in learning competitive format TF2 play. I don't really care about going pro, but I'd like to play in a serious and comp-style format, since that's what I find fun, not screwing around and doing stuff like 16v16 or Pub-starring. (By analogy, I generally have the most fun playing sc2 when I'm doing serious 1v1 play, not random monobattles or 2v2s)

Vids to watch/Must see threads:

http://www.youtube.c...n_order&list=UL
http://tf2wiki.net/w...petitive_format
http://www.ubercharg...tive-tf2-guide/

TEAM LIST:

Team 1

1. Iota (Scout)
2. Daman (Scout/Utility)
3. Doomz(Soldier 1)
4. (Soldier 2)
5. Traverse (Medic)
6. GreatDay (Demoman)

Team 2 (If enough people for a second team to exist)

1. (Scout)
2. (Scout/Utility)
3. (Soldier 1)
4. (Soldier 2)
5. (Medic)
6. (Demoman)

That said, I'm up to learn either pro-style 6v6 play, or 9v9 Highlander play if noone is up for super duper srs bsns 6v6 play. Since there aren't many servers dedicated to this, and if they are they're usually tight-knit or not welcoming to newer players, I figured I'd see if anyone from LANKnights was also up to play forreals.

Note that I said Comp-style instead of comp play for a reason; I'm not pro level scout, though I'd say I can pug star or at least be pretty good. Likewise, I don't care that everyone interested be really high skill level. I would simply like to start learning this playstyle, as I find it more fun and worth my time, and you have to start somewhere. Rather than try to get really good from pubbing and eventually jump straight into comp-play, I'd like to start building skill in the format and different class balance/roles now (yeah, obviously way different balances in 6v6 or 9v9 highlander, and there are class limits for 6v6 as well)

In either highlander or 6v6 pro-style, I play scout, so do note that that spot would probably be filled. If you only play scout yourself, and wanted to do that for highlander, still post here, we can work things like that out. But, just be aware that one of the possible two scout positions on my team would be filled for 6v6 play. Rules here: http://tf2wiki.net/w...petitive_format

NOTE: For serious competitive 6v6 play, the class limits in that post apply, as well as all other rules. Other than that though, this is what all standard/viable teams are made up of:

-2 Scouts (one is called Roaming (or long leash) scout to flank, pick off medics and newly spawned people, etc. while the other is called a Pocket (or short leash) scout, sticking to the ball of their team and complementing some synergy with a soldier, demo, someone in the main part of the team)

-2 Soldiers (one is Roaming/Long Leash, one is Pocket/Short Leash just like with the 2 scouts. Unlike pub soldierderp, it takes a ton of skill, probably the hardest in comp play under maybe medic, with scout and the utility classes short behind)

-1 Medic

-1 Demoman (highest killing potential, considered sometimes most powerful attacking class. bad bad weaknesses, which is why you have the medic, pocket scout, and pocket soldier)

NOTE: Heavy and Sniper are really the most/only viable utility classes, and if used are typically/almost always an offrace of one of the main scouts. E.g. if I was the roaming scout, and we needed to snipe a medic or something, I would switch to sniper simply to fulfill that situational need, and keep playing sniper till I'm dead at which point I'd go back to my job as roaming scout.

Please post if you're interested, have a comment, question, concern, anything. I feel like out of the 9001 people that play tf2 in LANKnights, we could at least get 12 or 18 of us that really care and aren't just looking to dick around. I'd like to do some serious learning, play, and practice, analogous to what we're doing for practice with SC2.

Yep, sounds good. You and I can do scout, will update thread with our 6 person team. More info later based on response from others. We'll shoot at first for just a 6 person LK team, but optimally I'd like to have two teams so we can 6v6. Till then, we'll form ours anyways, I feel like since you can utility and I currently know pure scout (will learn utility for when needed though, just dunno it yet) we'd have a good synergy for our scouts.

Yeah I would love to learn, my most viable class choice would have to be demo.
What does it matter how I loose it?

If we must resort to Highlander 9v9 format (1 person for each class), I'll let you know and spy is viable. In comp, seriousl 6v6, there's enough communication and a tight enough ball that spy is simply not viable, or not nearly as useful compared to the other needed class(es)

Trollpost, saying you'll sticky the post, or saying you play Demo and would like to do the 6v6 comp play? If so, you can be demo on team 2 if we can get enough people eventually. Lemme know which you meant >.>

If I liked TF2 enough (also if there were Heavies) I would consider trying it I guess. I'm horrible at the game so don't expect much (I don't play ANYTHING other than Heavy, so yeah...)

Oh okay. Well, if you love heavy that much you could play when/if we decide to do 9v9 highlander play (1 person of each class on each team).

Otherwise, you can still go heavy, but usually it's a situational class that you would use at times. Actually, you can replace the pocket soldier of a team with heavy, so that could work if you'd like to give it a shot. it's harder, and situational though, so you'd optimally learn soldier for when you couldn't do it There is always an exception to the rule, you could theoretically be one of the soldiers and then go heavy when needed, but generally the best format is maining scout and then using heavy or sniper as utility.

Still, I feel like we may not have enough interest to do a serious 6v6 or just 6 team league/play, in which case I'll try to organize the highlander format I mentioned in which you and other players of classes like engi. and spy can play ^^

I'll let you know based on the reaction I get from others.

needed. yay :D well, for now i'll put you down as medic and optional soldier, since idk which is more scarce here. I dont think any of us play medic but maybe you, and idk about soldiers. soldier will be easier/more likely for other utility mains to switch to though, so i'll leave that one open for now.

Alrighty, i'll add you into Team 2 under scout medic.

EDIT: You said you would play medic, and since we need solly's I need @doomz to play soldier.

XD I'll keep you in mind if we do highlander and you're serious (based on the past tf2 tourney you weren't, but....). engi is actually the least viable offensively of all the utility classes.

I did CEVO medic back in the day... I might be tempted to do this again. Someone get Aaron123 on board for scout and demo.

Awesome! Hm, this is gonna be a bit difficult, since Traverse said he would medic (though Idk if he's as experienced), and I seriously doubt we'll have enough for a second team of 6 seeing as I can't even find a second soldier for the first T_T I wonder if traverse is interested in soldier, then you could medic if you are interested...

Since scout and demo are full, i can see if aaron wants to do one or the other for team 2?

I feel like a team 2 would be doable since you could medic, aaron could demo, and scouts aren't hard to get perse. But, I feel like we have a big soldier shortage in LK, since I can't find more than one to even fill the first team...

Traverse, would you be willing to play soldier (if not, that's ok too)if tachyon decides he'd wanna play medic for team 1?
