That said, I'm up to learn either pro-style 6v6 play, or 9v9 Highlander play if noone is up for super duper srs bsns 6v6 play. Since there aren't many servers dedicated to this, and if they are they're usually tight-knit or not welcoming to newer players, I figured I'd see if anyone from LANKnights was also up to play forreals.
Note that I said Comp-style instead of comp play for a reason; I'm not pro level scout, though I'd say I can pug star or at least be pretty good. Likewise, I don't care that everyone interested be really high skill level. I would simply like to start learning this playstyle, as I find it more fun and worth my time, and you have to start somewhere. Rather than try to get really good from pubbing and eventually jump straight into comp-play, I'd like to start building skill in the format and different class balance/roles now (yeah, obviously way different balances in 6v6 or 9v9 highlander, and there are class limits for 6v6 as well)
In either highlander or 6v6 pro-style, I play scout, so do note that that spot would probably be filled. If you only play scout yourself, and wanted to do that for highlander, still post here, we can work things like that out. But, just be aware that one of the possible two scout positions on my team would be filled for 6v6 play. Rules here: http://tf2wiki.net/w...petitive_format
NOTE: For serious competitive 6v6 play, the class limits in that post apply, as well as all other rules. Other than that though, this is what all standard/viable teams are made up of:
-2 Scouts (one is called Roaming (or long leash) scout to flank, pick off medics and newly spawned people, etc. while the other is called a Pocket (or short leash) scout, sticking to the ball of their team and complementing some synergy with a soldier, demo, someone in the main part of the team)
-2 Soldiers (one is Roaming/Long Leash, one is Pocket/Short Leash just like with the 2 scouts. Unlike pub soldierderp, it takes a ton of skill, probably the hardest in comp play under maybe medic, with scout and the utility classes short behind)
-1 Medic
-1 Demoman (highest killing potential, considered sometimes most powerful attacking class. bad bad weaknesses, which is why you have the medic, pocket scout, and pocket soldier)
NOTE: Heavy and Sniper are really the most/only viable utility classes, and if used are typically/almost always an offrace of one of the main scouts. E.g. if I was the roaming scout, and we needed to snipe a medic or something, I would switch to sniper simply to fulfill that situational need, and keep playing sniper till I'm dead at which point I'd go back to my job as roaming scout.
Please post if you're interested, have a comment, question, concern, anything. I feel like out of the 9001 people that play tf2 in LANKnights, we could at least get 12 or 18 of us that really care and aren't just looking to dick around. I'd like to do some serious learning, play, and practice, analogous to what we're doing for practice with SC2.
