I had a really great time there! I second the idea of putting the tournament brackets and such on the forums, that would be really convenient for everybody. however, I'm not sure I agree with locking in all the tournament registrations in the first 3-5 hours. not everyone is there until about 3-4 hours in, it looked like. but then again, having everything all set up early like that would make the process of actually going through with the competition a hell of a lot smoother. matchups wouldn't have to be made in such a rush for the larger ones like SC2 or TF2. moreso SC2, but that just made me remember a weird issue with the TF2 tournament.
I was standing at the table signing up when I hear two guys behind me talking to each other. "... just sit down at a computer and play." Obviously this doesn't sound right, so I'm like, "are you guys in the TF2 tournament?" "yeah" "... did you bring your own computer? because everyone out there brought their own computer, there aren't any community PCs. so you can't just sit down at one." 10 minutes before the match starts is an inconvenient time to lose members of the team, so that set things back a bit. I think it's because they were part of Anime Spot or whatever and didn't realize that we LANKnights bring our own stuff. I don't know if that is going to come up again any time soon, but we should put a little note in the fliers next time when we are sharing an event with other groups so they know that it's BYO as far as PC gaming goes.
but back to the rushed matchups of the starcraft 2 tournament: I know this may not matter to most of you, but as a gold league player, I was a bit disappointed that I got a by in the first round and went against the winner of a platinum vs diamond game. I only bring it up because I know that Jabber was also in the tournament as a silver league player and went up against Cecil his first round instead of someone more around his level like me. /that/ would have been a game we both would have looked forward to. idk if there were any other sub-plat people there, but it would have been nice if we were grouped together at first. Jabber and I felt like we wanted to just get out of the way of the higher ranked people, lol. and that situation for the lowbies should be avoided, when possible. I know it was hectic with the scheduling, and I knew going into it that I wasn't going to make it any farther than one win (or two) in the best possible scenario anyway, but just keep us in mind =).
I said this verbally a few times at the LAN, but I'll say again that I loved the atmosphere. the loudness was great. all the consoles, all the shouting, the music. yes. ok. Du Hast... it's already a joke by now. I forget who brought up the idea, but I liked the thought of maybe at another LAN (whether it's just us or with another club like this one for sheer number of people) having a DJ instead of rockband. with the disclaimer that it is going to be LOUD for A LOT of it. I would totally be down for that.
I like the idea of the whole room playing one game, but we started Savage at what? like midnight? and I'm retarded so I couldn't figure out how to find it and just decided to go back to SC. yeah, I know you guys announced "if you need help getting Savage, ask and we will help you" you did a good job of that, but I was like "eehhh, I'm leaving in an hour anyway, forget it." I'd be much more inclined to play something like that if you did it sometime around the middle of the LAN. and then once again, perhaps, at the end like that when everyone already has it.
overall, this LAN was a total success!
EDIT: forgot to make the conclusion that I actually agree with locking in the tournament registrations within the first few hours. yeah, the late people might miss the tournament, but you might as well make sure things run as smoothly as possible for those who showed up on time (the majority).
