Just like our Back to School LAN, Officers and Staff would like to know what you thought about the event.

Note : Just like last time, this will be heavily moderated monitored, and anything that looks like a troll will result in administrative action.

We really do appreciate input on how to improve our events, because our goal is to make everybody enjoy our LANs as much as possible.

Thanks!

People already mentioned the Du Hast thing in the shoutbox. Apart from that though, it was a good lan. Nice variety of tournament games, and that late night Savage game was fun.

Note : I don't like the fact that this (or any) thread is "heavily moderated."

I worded it incorrectly. I inserted "administrative action" because I really don't want to see this getting off-topic, but I don't have any intention of moderating things that are not completely inappropriate.

IB and I were talking last night before packing up when all the chaos that was the LoL tourney (honestly, no hard feelings btw,) and basically he had this great idea about possibly adding a tab at the top of the website devoted to tourneys during LANs. If that could happen, would be awesome, and probably would open up even more tourneys if people are interested. Not just for LoL, but also tf2, BF3, HoN, etc etc.

Also, I think Messer and I got to talking and agreed that there should be signups for the first... 4 hours or so of the LAN for tourney registration, then It is closed and tourney start times are set.

Positively: Probably the best UCF event I've ever been to. I loved the size of the event, the atmosphere (although rockband had its horribad moments :P,) and that EA, the comp store, gamestop, and nos all came out and helped put on one hell of an event.

Thanks for a great day!

Since being a part of the LANKnights for more than 3 years now, I have to say that was definitely one of the best LANs to date. Appropriate amounts of shouting, a great atmosphere, good sponsors out at the LAN, a good mix of tournaments, and good people.

Some criticisms:
There probably can always be criticisms of any event, but a couple things I noticed for perhaps future events. Body odor was probably the most notable thing there. I had my bottle of febreeze, and thankfully didn't have to spray anyone near me, but I did spray constantly the ground and air so I could breathe something other than bad BO. Not something that we can really control too well unfortunately. Posted Image

There were only a few moments of downtime, which I thought was good. But I would like to see in the future where the whole room participates in multiple games, ala sourcemods/free games LAN. Savage was great, but we only had 20 or so people play. Posted Image

I have survived 6 LANKnights presidents so far. Ran for 5 elections with unanimous victories. Someone stop me.

serious suggestion -- scented candles(are candles allowed in the SU)?

also yeah that was pretty much the best LAN I've been to too!! the short bit of ut2k4/savage was really much more fun than the rest.

Ugh, please no scented candles. All that kinda stuff is like Axe- I'd rather smell body odor.

I had a really great time there! I second the idea of putting the tournament brackets and such on the forums, that would be really convenient for everybody. however, I'm not sure I agree with locking in all the tournament registrations in the first 3-5 hours. not everyone is there until about 3-4 hours in, it looked like. but then again, having everything all set up early like that would make the process of actually going through with the competition a hell of a lot smoother. matchups wouldn't have to be made in such a rush for the larger ones like SC2 or TF2. moreso SC2, but that just made me remember a weird issue with the TF2 tournament.

I was standing at the table signing up when I hear two guys behind me talking to each other. "... just sit down at a computer and play." Obviously this doesn't sound right, so I'm like, "are you guys in the TF2 tournament?" "yeah" "... did you bring your own computer? because everyone out there brought their own computer, there aren't any community PCs. so you can't just sit down at one." 10 minutes before the match starts is an inconvenient time to lose members of the team, so that set things back a bit. I think it's because they were part of Anime Spot or whatever and didn't realize that we LANKnights bring our own stuff. I don't know if that is going to come up again any time soon, but we should put a little note in the fliers next time when we are sharing an event with other groups so they know that it's BYO as far as PC gaming goes.

but back to the rushed matchups of the starcraft 2 tournament: I know this may not matter to most of you, but as a gold league player, I was a bit disappointed that I got a by in the first round and went against the winner of a platinum vs diamond game. I only bring it up because I know that Jabber was also in the tournament as a silver league player and went up against Cecil his first round instead of someone more around his level like me. /that/ would have been a game we both would have looked forward to. idk if there were any other sub-plat people there, but it would have been nice if we were grouped together at first. Jabber and I felt like we wanted to just get out of the way of the higher ranked people, lol. and that situation for the lowbies should be avoided, when possible. I know it was hectic with the scheduling, and I knew going into it that I wasn't going to make it any farther than one win (or two) in the best possible scenario anyway, but just keep us in mind =).

I said this verbally a few times at the LAN, but I'll say again that I loved the atmosphere. the loudness was great. all the consoles, all the shouting, the music. yes. ok. Du Hast... it's already a joke by now. I forget who brought up the idea, but I liked the thought of maybe at another LAN (whether it's just us or with another club like this one for sheer number of people) having a DJ instead of rockband. with the disclaimer that it is going to be LOUD for A LOT of it. I would totally be down for that.

I like the idea of the whole room playing one game, but we started Savage at what? like midnight? and I'm retarded so I couldn't figure out how to find it and just decided to go back to SC. yeah, I know you guys announced "if you need help getting Savage, ask and we will help you" you did a good job of that, but I was like "eehhh, I'm leaving in an hour anyway, forget it." I'd be much more inclined to play something like that if you did it sometime around the middle of the LAN. and then once again, perhaps, at the end like that when everyone already has it.

overall, this LAN was a total success!

EDIT: forgot to make the conclusion that I actually agree with locking in the tournament registrations within the first few hours. yeah, the late people might miss the tournament, but you might as well make sure things run as smoothly as possible for those who showed up on time (the majority).

oh oh about tournaments/organization

I'd like to apologize here to the pope for banning him from the TF2 tournament server(and subsequently having issues with the server not unsetting the ban until a mapchange), I was under the impression we had closed and were ready to start with the people who made it on time(15 minutes, multiple announcements)(pope had joined after the first round or something). Apparently there was another tournament going on at the same time that some players were still involved in. Tournament management definitely feels like we're a multi-headed hydra where none of the heads are talking to eachother(on this note, it felt like a lot of the staff were doing a LOT for one person, zenebatos must've been in charge of managing all the tournament stuff or something ridiculously broad...).

Simply amazing. :D

Only thing: The dude in TF2 tourney that did not do anything but troll as the engineer by building a teleport at the exit of the spawn, and having the teleport drop you right next to it, but behind a wall so you could not see it was really taking you nowhere...

Great job, great event, was a lot of fun.

For the SC2 tourny I feel bad for those that made it deep with the whole thing taking super long to finish, mostly because so many people were delaying their matches due to being involved in too many other events at the same time.
What does it matter how I loose it?

Only problem I see with this is that I would say at least 5+ of the people who would sign up would have left the event by the time of the tourney... This was also a problem with the league of legends tourney: people would sign up, and then drop out and not care, screwing over their team. :/

For the most part, it's a warning so that people know to be civilized. If they're not, then we can easily take action and any "but but but..." can just be replied by a link to the first post.

I think that a PHP tournament management option would solve this. People sign up, can create a team or join a preexisting team(in cases where admins create preset teams), or select to be placed in a random team. An admin can drop a user who has left from the tournament, and wherever they were assigned a randomer would fill the slot. This would all occur instantly, and if a team of randomers wanted to lock their team(so that none of them could be taken out to fill a finalized team's slot)(maybe they met up and liked eachother and played a practice round or something). People could form sticky relationships to eachother if they have q friend they want to be on the same team with but otherwise don't know anyone else.

best thoughts for me seem to occur during pointless lectures.

Deal with it.

That reminds me. I'm not too sure if I should make a new thread for this or what, but I would like to make a request. Can the staff section of the forum be made viewable to everyone? I don't think that members should be able to post in it, but I think it would be a good idea if non-staff users were able to see it. If anything, this would probably improve staff-member communication and help the club develop in the right direction. Also on a similar note, can the meeting minutes for general, staff, and officer meetings be made public?

If I recall correctly, this was an issue that was brought up when I was VP. I believe the officers took a vote on it, and the end result was more-or-less what you are describing. Does the current staff have plans to follow up on that?
