Hey all, I've been reading some of the recent discussion about the lack of cohesion in gaming, where a majority of gamers aren't following one particular activity. This has been leading me to think about larger activities outside of the FPS genre where a large number of both the older and some of the newer attendees can join in.

I'm pitching either a 3v3 or 2v2 tournament, which could be either single elimination or round robin. Terranup16 will not be playing, and instead has expressed interest in casting the matches.

Please give me any feedback you have, whether you would prefer it to be 2v2 or 3v3, if you'd like best of 3 or best of 1, or any other matters you might have concerning a possible tournament. There are definitely enough prospective players for this to be a possibility. I'm sure those of us who are heavily into the game would go out of there way to keep newer members who don't own the game posted, in case THQ does another sale. If you would like to talk about the actual game of DoW2: Retribution, or how it compares to any other possible game, please discuss that elsewhere.

Good Luck, Have Fun!

EDIT: Minor grammatical issue, preserved for posterity in Brain's quote.

You mean we actually have a chance? Count me in.

On a more serious note, this sounds pretty awesome. I'd gladly participate. I'm not too picky about the way the tournament is set up, either - 2v2 or 3v3 would work.

Yeah, Ghilgamesch hasn't had a great track record of showing-up to LANs, and without him my participation would be superfluous and detrimental, so instead I'd be happy to help run the tournament and broadcast to the projector and a live stream that anyone can tune in to.

Things to keep in mind for a Retribution tournament:
  • BO1 tends to run 10-25 minutes per round
  • BO3 tends to run 45-60 minutes per round
  • Will need to decide how race/hero selection is handled (allow counterpicking? Have players lock-in hero/race at start?)
  • If you don't have the game, it's usually available for $15 somewhere (you ONLY NEED RETRIBUTION FOR MP!) so it's cheap and we have plenty of experienced players that will get you up and going quickly
  • You don't need a superstar or to play DoW 2 daily to be competitive in this tournament, so don't fear entering! Especially for a team tournament, we can perform lane-matching and etc to ensure you get the best possible match-up every game

Definitely interested in this. Also, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TEAMS. Seriously, I like team games much better than 1v1's so this works out very well. Will definitely need to see if we can get a room or something for this.

I really want this to be something people can join in for "funsies." This way we can sort of try to distribute the good players who will be playing with some of the weaker players. If one good player just dominates everyone in his way, and he doesn't run into anyone else who's good before the later brackets, then everyone in his way is going to have a bad time of it. Doing 3v3's, or 2v2's if we don't get enough people, will help disburse this so that everyone who plays gets to have fun.

Best of 1 might actually be best, since we would want to run the tournament, then play other games. If we can start and finish this in the time span of 2 hours, that would be fantastic.

Yeah I definitely think having team matches is a better course of action if we are to really do something like this, especially with a few of the new members getting in on the game for the first time recently.

I'd be willing to dust off my old Force Commander for this, count me in.

Actually, was just talking with Messer about this, I think I'll try to help out Terran with casting rather than play, because getting both teams views is always a good thing to see :D. We could have two streams running at the same time to show what is going on (plus would give my 2500K something to do other than render Minecraft maps all day :P )

Interested...but need times/dates. And I would be rolling IG instead of Eldar.

This would likely be during Video Game Night, on October 1st if the staff were okay with making this an event.

D: D: D: D:

I would totally be for it, as long as it is during the second half of Video Game Night, otherwise I won't even be there for any of it.

About to start a first person cast for DoW 2 atm against my Art Director at Unearthly, xD Some of our teammates want to see the game, so we're going to give them a demo. If anyone wants to watch, go to:
http://www.twitch.tv/terranup16

I'll be commentating and playing in first-person, so it should be a good opportunity to learn/get better for anyone interested.

If you don't have Retribution, it's $14.95 on Direct2Drive right now. Steamworks game, so they just give you a key and it's all Steam from there on out.

If you missed the cast, catch the VOD here

Thank you to the 12 or so guys who participated in one way or another with the Tournament! Any feedback you have regarding the tournament? In advanced, I apologize for how last minute it was; I sort of just threw the idea into the air and left other people to handle specific details.
