Sorry to double post, but I also want to make this clear to the rest of the staff.

Can we please stop banning/editing/removing posts? I know this discussion is getting heated, but I think it's a good way to deal with the concerns of the users irregardless of whether it pertains to the LAN or not. We are not a fascist dictatorship, we're a god damn pc gaming club. Lets at least have a civil discussion without banning people from expressing their views.

The reasoning for his wording is because we can't do anything about it at the event if no one brings it up to us. If no one complains at the event, then how can we know what you guys want us to do? Complaining after the fact certainly brings it to our attention, but like I said, people need to speak up at the event if they have any complaints or requests. None of the staff had anyone come to us about this so we let it be.

There have been multiple complaints made in the past. It wasn't dealt with then, so I suppose the mindset among many of the members was "why bother"? And again, blaming the members for not complaining is not a way to fix the problem. A simple "next time, tell us; we're looking into it" would have worked.

edit: quoting for truth

This is what I mentioned previously. This club is not a SC2 club, it is a PC Gaming Enthusiasts Club. Telling people to stay at home if they do not like the noise is counter productive and does not help with the issue at all.

I've talked with some of the other staffers and came up with this to deal with shouting.

Any valid complaints received will result in warnings.

1st Warning: Verbal Warning: Letting the offender know that their shouting will not be tolerated and to keep it down.
2nd Warning: Network Disconnect for 15 min: Let the offender know again that they are too loud and disable their internet for 15 minutes.
3rd Warning: MAC address Ban and asked to leave: Ban the offenders MAC address, and ask them to leave the LAN.

And it shall be forever known as "The Cecil Rule" :P.

I think this is a good idea, I know that cecil is not intentionally disruptive, when he is asked to quiet down he legitimately tries to be quieter. Adding in the 15 minute timeout is something that is a good idea, it gives a concrete deterrence, something that is more likely to actively be on someone's mind.

If you have a problem, come talk to me, if you want somebody to be stricter on noise complaints, I'm the person you need to be speaking with, because I WILL kick somebody out for being too loud.

I think that's pretty much what you are asking for, and its already been said.

My apologies if you think I haven't done an amazing job but guess what, I've been sitting on my ass waiting for people to ask me if we can do things at the events.

Hell, for those complaining about the noise not a single one of you even addressed the noise problem to me throughout the entire LAN.

Coming onto the forums when we ask for constructive criticism and complaining about things that should have been brought up at the LAN is not what this topic is about, nor will it continue in that manner.

For the record, nobody was blaming the staff for Cecil's screaming. I would just rather not see the president of the club implying to the attendees that it was their fault Cecil was loud.

I think I was misunderstood by my last post.
What I meant to say when i stated that SC2 LAN's are supposed to be loud is simply that as long as there is SC2 in any LAN (not a SC2 specific LAN necessarily), expect it to be loud.

Still, I think my idea to fix the issue w/ the noise is easy to implement and could work wonderful.

SC2 LAN's are meant to be loud!!!!!

1. This past LAN was not a SC2 LAN, it was a regular LANKnights event that featured a TF2 event, a Bad Company 2 Tournament, and a Starcraft 2 tournament.
2. That is an opinion. The Staff recognizes that there are differing opinions on loudness at LANs (and in fact we have staff on both sides of the issue) and that a compromise in how we handle things will be necessary. This whole "Deal with it (my way)" is not appropriate for adult members of a UCF club.

I was complained to by only two people (out of the over 90 present) that the loudness levels were inappropriate (at the same time). I immediately asked Cecil to calm down a bit; and so he did. If I had been told that there was a problem again, then my duty would have been to inform the rest of staff and deal with the problem. However, since I only received the two complaints (after the same bout of loudness), I did not believe that the problem was a continuing issue. Would you have done differently? If so, what would you have done? I ask you to remember that I have hearing difficulty, and so I rely on attendees to let me know if there's a problem with loudness.

I can definitely tell you that the Staff has been spending most of our time out of classes working out how to deal with the issues that everyone here has been raising, and we're not planning on dropping the issue until we can satisfy the majority of club members that the issues have been resolved.

LANKnights was formed to bring different types of gamers together into a community, and currently I see people trying to separate.

The trollish origins of the club are known to very few, unfortunately. It's all supersrsbznz now.

I think that is the problem people have with SC2. It has a reputation for having loud players/spectators. If you play HoN or counterstrike, its like saying "If you play with Brazilians, expect them to steal your kills and play badly, that's how they are." I'm sure it is how they are, but most people would kick people playing like that from their games, not just acknowledge that that's just "what they do." Personally, I agree with you, but I can see their side in this argument.

Just a thought, what about if, in the future, we have 2 rooms, the main room, and then a smaller side room for those who don't want to be in the room with SC2. I know we have done that twice in the past, and it seemed to work fine. Were there complaints about the LAN we had CSL practice or the last video game night? Those are the lans I am referring to.

Ok, this obviously isn't going to get any better. I am really disappointed right now. We wanted feedback about the event, which we certainly got, but things have gone way too far in this thread. We do appreciate your input and we are certainly going to take a lot these things into consideration and begin implementing many of them for our future events.

I'm closing this thread now. If you guys have any further concerns, please PM a member of staff or send an email to staff@lanknights.net and we will be sure to contact you guys personally.
