I just moved here at the start of the semester and notice that if I try to stream anything, my internet bottlenecks a LOT. Watching a 40 second youtube video takes 1-10 minutes to buffer. Playing SC2 causes it to freak out. If I want to watch a stream, again, it freaks out. I can pretty much do anything else normally, but those 3 in particular absolutely destroy my connection.

Brought up command prompt and pinged a server to see if there were any patterns and it kicks up from 20ms ping to 400-800+ms when I try to do any of the above.

Any thoughts?

Don't live at pegasus pointe where they implement bottlenecks on services that suck up most of their bandwidth? But seriously that's what it sound like they're doing, bottlenecking gaming and video streaming.

Also, maybe try a vpn serivce? If they don't catch on then I'm sure you could get better ping than 800ms

You will have to pay for internet separately. Otherwise you are a the mercy of every torrenting resident.

If this was the place joe was living at, they throttle your internet connection to a set cap. Try to download a ubuntu cd image and check what's the max speed you get.

Thanks for the responses. Guess I'll just end up looking into separate internet or something.

Brighthouse gave us an awesome deal for the fastest internet package + HD/digital cable for $55 a month, which we split between 3 people. They should have something similar still.

FYI They only do this if your compound already provides you cable. If they dont provide you cable, then you have to pay the $100 for the whole thing.
