So I connected onto the wireless network of UCF (UCF_WPA2 didn't work for me) and i had no problems getting onto to steam and connecting to HoN games. When i came back to my dorm, i left steam open and it would still work. Once I logged off of steam and tried to log in again, i got the same error message above. Also when I came back home, I could not join any HoN games either.

So what this means is that nothing is wrong with my computer and that UCF must be blocking some access on my port.

The authentication servers are probably on a different port which is most likely blocked... Or it's a randomized port in a given port range where 10% of them are actually open here in ucf...

Balls. Sucks for you guys o_O

I called the service desk and they say they have not blocked any access to my port. Also, in HoN, I was able to join games located in the EU but all USA games I could not join. But as of now even the EU games don't work. Since they say they have not blocked anything, I'm thinking that something physically might be wrong with my port.

So I tested if I could log onto Steam when I was connected to my friends LAN port and I could not. But I can log onto Steam when I am connected Wirelessly. That must mean that the problem must be in my computer's LAN card. Maybe I need to change some settings or something? How might I be able to change those settings and what settings should I change?

So somehow mine decided to begin working. I think it might have had to do something with the wireless signal. Make sure you have it turned off if you are in your dorm and can connect it to an ethernet cable. It did the trick for me.

Mine isn't working unless i connect through UCF_WPA 2 (wifi). I am at Towers 2 using wall ethernet.

p.s. same thing with bad company 2, i can't search for servers unless on wifi. But I can play steam games with ethernet once i am actually connected. I think it's just the initial connection phase that has problems (maybe p2p, no clue).

Hey guys, so I'm in tower 2, and I just installed steam today, but it's deciding to be super gay and not work... Has there been any consistent solution proven to work? Or just get lucky and be able to connect?

Also, I'm on a desktop so I can't really connect to the wireless ucf networks >.>

Yeah, no real rhyme or reason as to how it just works. Just be patient and eventually, you should connect.

update: I tried hooking up my laptop to see if the steam worked there (because it was already installed), and my laptop worked, but my desktop still doesn't. I'm thinking maybe its because I don't have some updates for steam that I need or something? I'd really appreciate some help

COULD NOT CONNECT TO THE STEAM NETWORK.

IT APPEARS THAT YOU ARE NOT CURRENTLY CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET, OR THAT YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION IS NOT CONFIGURED CORRECTLY FOR STEAM.

It appears that the issue is primarily confined to Towers 2. I'm having the same issue as are a few other residents.
