But then again, I never had issues with on campus steam as a freshman. Personally, I'd call Service Desk (407-823-5117 or serviceDesk@mail.ucf.edu) and see if they can figure out why you seem to be having the issue while your friends are not. Unfortunately, if you get someone who doesn't care, they'll just throw the following at you: (from http://www.resnet.ucf.edu/faq.htm)
Quote
The ResNet AUP does not prohibit users from participating in online gaming services and the Network Operations Center does not take any action to prevent the functionality of online games. However, some online games have difficulty communicating through the ResNet firewall and may not function properly on ResNet. The Network Operations Center will not make accommodations to provide support for online games. If a particular title does not function, the user will need to seek support from the title's manufacturer.
Good luck!

I read the resnet FAQ, which led me to believe I would get no help there. Also, I can't really forward UCF ports myself...
I can access steam perfectly with my laptop. This leads me to believe it is not something that has to do with the network, but something to do with my computer. This leads me to believe I might have some settings set wrong for connecting to UCF's network compared to connecting to my home network, but I really don't know. I may try calling the Service Desk tomorrow or something, but I really have my doubts on how much help they will be.

The people at the UCF Campus Service Desk are usually incompetent and, above all, incredibly lazy. Even if they were motivated or capable individuals, they probably wouldn't help you with your problem; as the FAQ implies, they don't really care whether or not you can play games. That being said, it might not hurt to call them anyway - if nothing else you'll get a tech support horror story to tell the rest of us.
How are you connecting to the internet? Are you going through a router or are you plugged directly into the wall? Do you have connection problems with any other programs on your desktop, or just with Steam?

I'm connecting directly to the wall through an ethernet cord with my desktop. On the laptop, I connected it directly to the wall with the same ethernet cord, but now I am using the wireless. Steam worked on the laptop while using the ethernet to get internet(no it was not connecting to the wireless in any way possible) and is working with the wireless. Also, if i tried to call the service desk, I really wouldn't know what to say, honestly. Maybe just check which ports are open or something.

Anyway, I've personally never had this issue (the one issue I HAVEN'T had with Steam? xD), but it's cropped-up for ib numerous times. My read on it is that it seems to either just randomly go away, or if you're willing to reinstall the OS multiple times you can force it away a little faster.

tl;dr - be patient, it should eventually come back. Don't bother sending a support request to either the Help Desk or to Steam Support, because they are going to tell you that the UCF Network is not responsible if games don't work and Valve will just give you the basic "Reset your network card" bullshit that never works.
Also, welcome to the club skitt :3

So what this means is that nothing is wrong with my computer and that UCF must be blocking some access on my port.
