My friend is building his first PC and he wanted me to run his build by you guys. Does everything look good? Should all be compatible? Not forgetting anything? He already has mouse, keyboard, and speakers, and doesn't want a DVD drive. Thanks!

Where is the motherboard? Also, if he doesn't have a DVD drive, he better have a copy of Windows 7 or whatever he is going to use on a USB drive. That or 100 floppy disks.

Lol, looking through so many parts the motherboard we grabbed got lost somehow. How's this look: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16813131402
Also, good point about the DVD drive.

Ditch the Triple Channel Memory. Just get two sets of dual channel. Also, the motherboard is compatible, but it is rather old. What kind of things is this computer going to do?

Why dual channel? He wants to play MMO's like old republic on highest settings and some shooters on medium-high.

AMD doesn't support Triple Channel memory. You would be slowing it down more than anything. If he wants to play those games on those settings, that should be able to do it, but it won't be able to last too much longer into the future, especially with Bulldozer/Ivy Bridge/Sandy Bridge E releasing shortly. Does he have any sort of a budget?

He's fine with the fact that he might be outdated in a little while he says. And his budget is around 900.

EDIT- that budget includes a monitor, mouse, speakers, and windows 7 which he already picked out, and those came out to 275ish

Should be good for awhile. Like I said, certainly not top of the line, but it will be capable for what your friend needs.

Now a question would be: Does he plan on trying to upgrade this in a year? If so...I would consider finding an 1155 board and a cheap I3/I5 that'd work for now and upgrade to that I7 later on.
