Looking for web developers

Hey everyone,
My name is Alex Hertz. I graduated from UCF with a Masters in CS in 2009. I have a friend who is looking for web developers for a project. I am kind of acting as a middle man here because with my current schedule, I am unable to help him. I don't have any details on the project or compensation, so this is for anyone who is ambitious enough to go into a blind meeting. The compensation will LIKELY (but not definitely) be a % of earnings. This is in the extreme early stage, mainly just an idea, and you will probably be asked to give input on how you would go about implementing his idea. He is looking for a team of about 4. Shoot me an email if you are interested and I can get you in contact with him.

Thanks,
Alex Hertz

This is dangerous territory, lads.

Yeah, the issue I have seen with "% of earnings" is that, they may not make any profit while you design the site/program. Once you leave (or are let go of) they start marketing it, and then the money rolls in. They profit, you don't see a dime.
Not saying Alex will do this, but I have also seen plenty of times where the business people lose interest, or realize it will not be as profitable as they hoped. The line of thought is this unfortunately, "I have this idea, you design it, and if it goes no where I didn't waste my time figuring it out, you did.. and you did it for free."
Normally I only get started with projects like these with friends. You know who you are working with, you know the quality of their character. Etc...

That's understandable. I am currently working in a similar scenario, but like you said, with someone who I know and trust. However, like I said, I don't know all the details, and this would really just be to setup a meeting and talk about a few things. If you don't like what you hear, then no problem. I was told that it would likely be a % of earnings, but if you would prefer to get paid for your time, then you could voice that. I know for my current project I am perfectly fine with spending a few hours a week working on this project in hopes that I get solid future earnings. If it doesn't work out, at least I am gaining valuable experience in a field that I didn't have a lot in prior.
I would also like to point out once again that whatever you work out, has nothing to do with me. I am merely helping a friend find programmers to talk to about an idea that he has.

Hey Alex,
My name is Derek. I'm a 4th year UCF Student set to graduate in 2012 with Bachelor's in Digital Media. I have 11 years of experience in web development, and most of it in dynamic content (PHP, Dynamic HTML via Javascript and XML). I don't have the details on what advice I could give because I have no information on what type of blind meeting your friend could be offering. In the extreme early stages I ask for $35 up front and I'll probably ask your friend to sign a contract for consultation services. I'm looking to be available for web development consulting at a rate of $25.00 an hour. Please shoot me an email if you would like a resume and/or vitae.

Thanks,
Derek

I hope he's mostly interested in the vitae. I love telling my life story to random people on the internet, and everyone knows that getting paid to do something you're good at is bullocks anyways. I mean, who pays for prostitutes? I sure as hell don't.
