Mind you by June, AMD might have an 8 or 12 core (Since they already have those up and running in the Opteron Line) which could turn heads away from Intel before people can get their hands on Bulldozer.
Yeah, but who would buy an 8-12 core Phenom II for a consumer desktop when the Phenom II X6 hardly has any advantage over the X4 due to lack of consumer massively threaded programs? The majority of programs are still unfortunately not multi threaded, and those that are, are 9/10 times limited to 2-4 threads.
As for waiting for Ivy Bridge...idk, you won't see it this year. If you're looking to upgrade, Q2 will be a good time to do it. Apparently now I'm forced to wait until then, which blows.

I touch myself, for a buck I'll touch you.

Which is why Intel still beats AMD in the single-threaded to dual-threaded benchmarks because of Hyper-Threading and Turbo-BOOST and NOS and Red Bull and Monster Energy.

Why aren't you folding???? no, wait, don't fold.
The Live folding stats doesn't work when I'm on campus for some reason. Can't upload to the server I have for that stats from the Towers for some reason.

Bulldozer is a different architecture and if the reports are true, they are supposed to be 50% faster than the current gen of processors from Intel. Although I think that is a bit optimistic but still. I'm waiting on both of them to release to see which one I am going for. Mostly depends on which one has the better F@H performance.

50% faster comparing an 8 core/4 module CPU to a 4 core CPU w/HT. If they can pull that off, within the same die constraints, then I will be impressed. I think AMD's best realistic scenario here is they build such a CPU that is larger than the closest Intel competitor, with 10% better performance, for the same price.
Intel will obviously then respond with further 6 core releases as well as eventual 8 core w/HT SKUs. At that point, AMD is going to either have to build a 6-8 module CPU, or throw in the towel and go back to the budget sector.
I've heard rumors that AMD is resurrecting the FX series naming scheme, so maybe there is some truth to these performance rumors. We'll find out in a few months.
