Too bad it's just a SATA Controller issue and won't affect anyone in the short-term and only be noticeable on a few machines in the long-run.

Yeah...ironically, it's not that big of a deal. It's not like it's doing voltage spikes to the CPU that'll lessen their lifespan or something crazy painful like that. Someone probably will be fired anyways though...someone failed.

Yep, anyway, still waiting on Ivy Bridge/Bulldozer. If this is a problem with Ivy Bridge as well though, I'll be sticking with Bulldozer.

I wouldn't worry too much Sniper. Chances are it won't even bother you and your board has SATA 6Gb/s ports, I've read that those aren't prone to the issue since it uses its own controller.

Ahh, you got a link for that? Everything I'm searching is simply "Lulz recall bro out errybody". I'd be really ecstatic if the 6GB/s were not included.

That talks about the SATA controller problem. Basically it's because of the older SATA 3Gb/s controller.

The information in that link seems to be more focused on the financial side of the recall, rather than technical details. There isn't really much there that hasn't already been posted in this thread.

Leaking currents which, when given time to build up, can cause the 3Gb/s ports to fail. Luckily, the two SATA 6Gb/s sockets are governed by independent transistors and clocking trees, so they’re not affected.

Awwwww yeeeaaa son, got nothin but 6GB/s on my board.

Well then you have nothing to worry about. Now you better get that CPU to at least 4.6 on the stock heatsink as everyone else is doing or I will personally take the machine and claim it as mine XD

Scratch that, I have 4- 6GB/s and 4- 3GB/s... guess I'll warranty replace it once that's available to me, but until then I'm set with the 4 6GB/s ports.

There's no proof that it won't affect anyone in the short term, Intel simply claimed that within 3 years, there's a 5-15% chance your 3GB/s ports will be affected. They honestly have no clue. This is a pretty serious issue.

Now Intel has to set aside $700mil for this recall, and chipset sales (thus board and OEM sales) for Sandy Bridge are all but frozen until the end of February. Even once production of chipsets resumes, shipments to OEMs and board manufacturers might not even begin until March. Gigabyte is already saying they won't be able to ship until April/May.

Yeah, this may not be a huge deal for some end users, especially if they only need a few 6GB/s ports, but for everyone else, this sucks ass. I wanted to upgrade in a few weeks, but by then there won't be any boards for sale, and I don't feel like squandering a defective product off eBay, especially since due to massive supply shortage, we'll likely see an increase in pricing.

At this point, a lot of people are going to seriously start considering waiting for Bulldozer, which should arrive in June. This is just a massive fail.

Mind you by June, AMD might have an 8 or 12 core (Since they already have those up and running in the Opteron Line) which could turn heads away from Intel before people can get their hands on Bulldozer.

I've been waiting on Bulldozer and Ivy Bridge personally because I didn't feel that it would be worth going for Sandy Bridge. Ivy Bridge is essentially a die shrink of Sandy Bridge and Bulldozer is just a new architecture at a smaller die size as well. That battle, so to speak, will be the one to wait for.
