What were your favorite PC Games of 2010? Do tell!
And no, expansion packs do not count.

1. Minecraft - Even though it's TECHNICALLY unreleased, you paid money for it, and $14 was totally worth the price of a virtual LEGO set you can play with your friends in. The fact that there will eventually be an unobtrusive storyline and a full set of NPCs is just icing. Sweet, dripping, delectible icing. If you like building, crafting, and dying, you either own Minecraft or need to purchase it. Never before has a sandbox building game managed to capture as many people's imaginations. Jogasphere, anyone?

2. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 - Shut the hell up and enjoy this game. No, really. It doesn't quite play like a Battlefield game, so ignoring the title, DICE has just laid a golden bitch-slap in the face of every other FPS developer on the planet. Besides the fact that for $20 you can tantalize your blood-seeking senses with all the destructible environment you could want, the developers were even kind enough to include a single-player spoof of Modern Warfare 1 and 2! Add in a fair amount of free DLC and a sweet Vietnam expansion and you have the best military FPS to date. My handle's tachyon and we're on the LANKnights mumble server.

3. Mass Effect 2 - I was honestly disappointed that this list wasn't ALL sequels, since everyone seems to be in the practice of making completely amazing number 2's. Whatever you didn't like about Mass Effect one, it's gone in Mass Effect 2 (and if you didn't like Mass Effect 2 GTFO my internets you FPS/RPG hating fool). A strong storyline that links right in with the first game and rock solid mechanics make this sci-fi RPG one of my favorites of all time.

4. Bioshock 2 - If Mass Effect didn't have enough whale wailing water waving wildly with wicked women watching within wet wharfs, well damn if you didn't go play Bioshock. The first game in the series may have captured our minds, but the second truly captured the rest... in a giant Big Daddy suit. Bioshock is really an FPS with some System Shock flavoring dropped in, which makes it all the more delectable to savor. Like water? Me too. Like Retro FPS? Me three. Like creepy little girls? Me neither, but this game is wonderfully all of the above.

5. Starcraft 2 - Why isn't Starcraft II first on the list you cry!? Why did you eat my children and poison my home garden that I spent years cultivating!? Why does the devil's black soul burn through your eyes!? The answer to all these questions, my dear children, lies in Starcraft II's only flaw: Battle.net. Seriously, what the hell Blizzard? What happened? Oh yeah, Activision. On the other hand, the multiplayer is as refined as tactical RTS's can be, standing up to the likes of Dawn of War II and Farmville. The custom maps alone make the price tag worth it, and the single player is just as Western-style corny and over-the-top as the original Starcraft.

6. Darksiders - Another surprise hit, this one straight from the Comic Artists and crew themselves responsible for the IP. The artistic inspiration shines right through this Zelda/Metroid inspired gauntlet of slashing, quick-timing, and RPGing. I'll admit that I haven't had the time to beat it yet, but you'll be mildly surprised at how enjoyable its mostly linear fantasy storytelling becomes. Orcarina of Time: I'm a Badass Horseman of the Apocalypse is probably a better title for this well crafted action RPG.

7. Super Meat Boy - No one likes platformers, obviously seeing as Braid didn't even get a mention last year... If you liked Mario, play this platformer. If you liked Donkey Kong, play this platformer. If you liked Contra, play this platformer. If you liked last night's sexing, play this platformer. What I'm trying to say here is that you really can't resist a game about a skinless meat boy saving his girl from an evil baby psychopath in a robotic tuxedo.

8. Assassin's Creed 2 - Mr. I'm a retro-sci-fi-adventure actually gets better in the second installment. Price of Persia-esque assassin simulator improves on the original's controls and views without sacrificing too much storyline. The first game's open world feel remains well ingrained, but this time the storyline doesn't vanish after the first 20 minutes and reappear at the very end like a long lost cousin that you got drunk at a bar, slept with, and found out you were related in the morning. Egh. Er.... Exploring the world of Leonardo Da Vinci and the Renaissance feels fresh, lively, and has way more options for carrying out your deadly missions than the prequel.

9. Stalker: Call of Pripyat - Russians, mutants, and guns. What more do you need to know? Another sequel that isn't a surprising as the original, yet still manages to improve meaningfully on the first in the most important areas. Call of Pripyat made me forget about Clear Sky completetly, and I feel quite entitled to pretend that Shadow of Chernobyl and Call of Pripyat are the only two definitive Stalker games, er, stalking around. It's much prettier, much more interesting, with much more to do. Sandbox FPS with strong storyline in an alternate reality. I'd go Russian for that.

10. Alien Swarm - Valve bribed me and this list by releasing Alien Swarm for free and including a TF2 Hat. Now you know how easy I am to bribe! True story. Also quite true is that with all of the new user made maps coming out, Alien Swarm is turning into a full value AAA top down tactical shooter that costs 30 minutes of downloading and a free Steam account. Even though the leveling system is disappointingly linear unlike much of the other sci-fi shooters on the markert, the team play and game design are absolutely wonderful. Keep an eye out for those custom maps, ladies and gents. ( http://swarmarmory.com/maps?action=view&id=355-Lana's+Escape , http://swarmarmory.c...:+Full+version. )
Honorable Mentions:
APB - A whole game just for trolling!? NO WAY! Sign me up for Free to Play.
Bob Came in Pieces - Platformers are coming back. Physics-based simple fun with pretty graphics and solid gameplay.
Just Cause 2 - You star in an explosive summer action movie, minus the behind set trailer titillation. It's good-looking too.
