Hello! I'm upgrading my processor. Right now I have an AMD Athalon X2 2.7ghz. I'm looking at getting this: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16819103675
It's on sale for 126 with promo code. So 2 questions,
1. Does that look like a good processor for me to upgrade to? I don't want to overclock.
2. Do I need to upgrade my power supply? I'm pretty sure mine is 450W, I have a 5770 graphics card, 7200rpm hard drive, dvd drive, and i think 4x1gb ram.

Thanks for the help!

Two questions:

What motherboard do you have now?

What is the model of the X2 CPU you have now?

You will see an improvement, but first you need to make sure your motherboard can support 125watt TDP cpuss.

You should be fine with the current PSU.

The current cpu is 5200+ (is that what you were looking for?)
My motherboard is the Asus M3N72-D, how do I find out if it supports 125watt TDP cpus?

You can find out here:

http://support.asus....product=1&os=17

It looks like it does support the CPU. So, just update your BIOS to the latest version and you should be all set for it.

You'll notice a good improvement.

MagicJames, that motherboard will support the CPU (I believe it supports up to 140W TDP if I'm not mistaken). Since you don't plan on overclocking it that is a nice one to get (if you were going to get the Black Edition I would tell you to get a nice heatsink and overclock it XD). Also in the future you can use that same processor if you get a new motherboard (assuming it supports AM3 processors) that supports DDR3 memory.

Do you agree that the psu is good for now? And are you still willing to supervise/instruct when I install this?

The CPU will come with a detailed instruction with pictures on how to properly install it. You'll do fine.

Yes, the PSU is good enough. I've build quadcore systems with a 350watt PSU with no problem, grant it was a good PSU and no discrete GPU, just onboard, so that 450watt will be fine.
