Demo
If you've been on the edge about getting the game, then yeah I'd say this is definitely worth it. While GPG has mostly moved on, Stardock is still providing good support and the networking has been pretty much completely fixed. Supposedly Stardock will be porting Impulse Reactor to the game soonish (the "date" given was after Elemental: War of Magic released), so that's also something to look forward to.
Gameplay-wise, Demigod is DotA-esque, but while the "Demigod" count is lower (there are only 10), there is overall more to each match (each hero has nearly twice as many abilities as DotA/HoN heroes, making ability trees diverse and customizable as you play; as well, there is a bigger emphasis on the NPC minions and side factors, as there are cappable flags which provide either combat or economic bonuses and the Citadel structure that allows players to purchase global upgrades for their team, including unlocking new NPCs, improving those NPCs, improving defenses, improving gold income, improving experience, etc...). That all comes at the "cost" of the PvP combat being a slightly lesser focus, and HoN/LoL/etc do a bit better of a job there.
But then again, that all goes back to my opinion being that Demigod is ultimately more about fun, and less about the competitive PvP element. It's certainly there still, but you've got plenty of room to give it a backseat while you try to win in other ways. So yes, it's a bit more casual.

Fun for LAN's or playing online with a friend. That's about it. I'd be up for playing sometime tho.

You mean ever? My free time is from 6:30pm to 9:30pm weekdays, and then weekends. And I gotta eat and do upkeep and homework. So we'll see...
