So was using my PC last night and the pc just bluescreened at idle. Raid 5 failed a drive. Ok no big deal right? Pop in my hotswap and start repairing. Well let that run overnight. PC apparently shut off somewhere in there. Now you hit the power button, PC is on for 2 seconds, off for 2 seconds. Kinda seems like a power good then a power bad signal. So I'm not sure if I have a motherboard that just quit or if it's the PSU. It's got an OCZ 600w running a Core2Quad 9300, 8 gb DDR 800, Raid 5 of 160 gb HDD, 1 64 gb SSD, GTX 280. No signs of issues until shit hit the fan. At first I was thinking PSU, but as I started unplugging things no behavior change. It's down to 2 gb of ram, only the SSD, and the GTX 280, and the CPU of course.

Let me know if you guys think it's board or PSU. Haven't had the time to really pop in a spare PSU to test anything...just want to see if anyone has another opinion on what might've done this chaos.

I'm gonna hazard a guess at the PSU with an off/on issue. I bet if you hit up Chitty he'll let you swing by and borrow the tester if you don't have one you can use.

There's your problem.

Been seeing a lot of people on other forums complaining about OCZ PSUs. What kind of motherboard are you using? It is most likely the PSU or motherboard. I would get a hold of a spare PSU and try that.

I actually think it's the motherboard. My original motherboard did the same exact thing when I first bought it. You might want to test out the PSU first though. I think there's a test online with a paperclip... look that up.

Answer to the question: PSU has died. Probably only able to push out about 100 watts (couldn't post with CPU and base 2gb ram only). Found a 550w and it turned over just to prove the point. Raid 5 failed as drives became underpowered. I won't know til monday if the Raid 5 is truly recovable, when my PC Power Cooling 750w comes in. The fun news is I bought a 120 gb G.Skill Phoenix Pro SSD to replace my 60 GB G.Skill Falcon (Punch....yes it should've been part of their ad campaign). Overall stats make it well over 2x the sustained write speeds of my 60 gb, so it should be quite interesting to see the performance changes. I may even scrap my 160 gb Raid 5 and just keep one drive to do a full backup.

At least it wasn't the board and having to replace that and retain the raid would be a big pain in the ass.

Well...apparently even my 60 GB SSD ended up corrupt file system. I think my onboard RAID Chip got fucked up or something...had to turn off RAID for my new 120 GB SSD to be recognized. New drive is pretty damn fast. Somewhere in the 12-15 sec into windows timeframe.

Lawl bro why would you buy an SSD? Don't you know hard drives aren't bottle necks? Shoulda gota new raid controller and put in 40 green hard drives bro. That'd be the smart thing to do if you want true performance.
