Hey everyone, I'm looking at getting a new laptop since I've finally gotten out of my junior college and should be moving to UCF Orlando in the next half year or so.

I was browsing Best Buy's site because I was wanting to get a decent laptop rather soon and was looking at these two since it fell more comfortably into my budget.

Asus - Laptop with Intel® Core™ i5 Processor - Blue/Black:

Anyone know anything about these brands because I'm not too familiar with them so I don't know if the companies have a bad reputation. They seem like they have decent gear for what I'm going to be paying for them and I really need them for my game design classes I'll be taking.

Thanks for reading.

If I were you I would definitely go with the Asus laptop. From personal experience Asus has always been a great brand and just from looking at the two laptops, that would be the better choice. Nearly everything is similar, however the hard drive spins at a faster speed, meaning faster load times, and the graphics chip is of a higher tier than the Samsung one.

By the way, hope to see you around in the club sometime!

Yeah I'd love to come to one of the parties this summer if I'm able to get the laptop here before the next one starts.

O I wish I could go to some of the Summer LANs. Sadly, work is telling me otherwise haha. Saturday LANs don't work well for me.

You might want to rethink getting a gaming lappy. I did it initially, and now (a year and a half later) I'm building a new computer. I'd recommend getting a desktop, and then a net book. (The net book is really good for in class notes, and portability) You should be able to build a much better desktop and get a cheap net book for the same price.

QFT Laptops for gaming always perform poorly, cost more than an equivalent desktop, and are really not upgradable. A desktop on the other hand will last longer and allow you to invest in upgrades which will extend it's life quite considerably.

This. My first several semesters here I was using an Asus G1S gaming laptop, which (at the time) was a decent gaming performer. It also originally cost upwards of $1200. After about six months to a year, the G1S was almost completely outdated and could barely handle the new games that were coming out. The portability on the machine was nice, but its lack of performance and long-term abilities meant that it really just wasn't a practical choice. With gaming laptops, you're spending a lot to get reduced performance that won't be capable of properly handling next year's games.

After I finally got around to getting a decent job, I built myself a new desktop and got a netbook. This was an amazing change, and to be honest it was what I should have done in the first place. For the same total cost as that Asus G1S, I had a superior gaming platform for home and at LANs, and an extremely portable netbook with long battery life for use at school. The system is working out great for me and I would highly recommend that you do something similar.

Ditto, except I forgot to do the part about building an awesome gaming desktop.
