This website is pretty accurate. How much power do you really use? Here's mine.

83 Watts on my netbook, though it doesn't take into account the built in monitor for laptops?

Apparently I'm using 229 Watts for the recommended minimum. Interesting...I have a 650 Watt PSU.

Meh, I can't fully config my system because it doesn't let me select two individual video cards.

My system recommended 596 watts for a 90% load (662 for 100% peak) hehe. Good thing I use a 600+. This answers an argument of what happens when a high powered system peaks....if it peaks for a prolonged time (I.E. a heavily graphic intensive game that you play for a few hours) it's usually a good practice to leave some headroom in there. Otherwise you're having a heatstrain on your PSU caps that'll shorten their life, just like any other PC component.

It's not a case of it just poof dead, but the overall life is threatened over time.

If you're thinking my numbers are BS: I have a lot of shit hooked up to my PC. I realistically need to probably get a slightly bigger PSU for any future build just to give the PSU some headroom again.

479 watts on 90% and 533 watts on 100%. Also you little nubbs add capacitor aging to your machine as most of you have had it for longer than a year and probably need to account for that. You'd be suprised about the difference it makes.

Well, the site doesn't work so well for laptops, but I used Stug's watt meter on my laptop a while back (measuring power drawn from the wall), and I use 50W idle and 100W load (running Company of Heroes benchmark).
also kittens.

StuG's watt meter was showing me using no more than 210 watts while playing Crysis or doing the CoH benchmark.

Are you measuring wattage from the wall? because that's not exactly the same was what the PSU is outputting. There are internal stepping mechanisms for it's output...not to mention to turn 120 AC into 12 DC, etc. It's mostly the amp draw that should be of concern which the lite program doesn't give you a specific idea of. I know mine only pulls around 254 from the wall, as my UPS actually has a meter of what wattage it pushes out.

Yeah, that makes sense. But wouldn't that mean that the DC current isn't more then what it draws from the wall? I know it has capacitors and such, but you can't use more electricity than what you have.

As I'm not an EE, I don't know the specifics, but I would assume in stepping up and down voltages, amperage can be stepped to an extent with the transformers. Higher the amperage need, higher the wattage going into the PC.

Ok, my computer uses 370 - 380 watts while running Intel Burn Test and Furmark (stressing both CPU and GPU). :D

If anyone else wants to borrow the wattmeter and run the same tests, let me know.
