So I finally bought it.

But.....

After countless hours trying to get WiN7 to install. (fuck that POS os). I finally get it to install. Motherboard and CPU temps were a lil high but still within norms.

But....

All of sudden I smelled smoke. After a lil investigating I could see visible smoke rising from behind the CPU heatsink. OH MY!!!!! I switched the power supply off. (expletives ensued)

Then.....

I took the computer apart to examine the circuitry. As I pulled the back plate off, I noticed the bolts were black hahaha from the melted board. Apparently around the holes the cpu heatsinks go through somehow the circuitry made contact with the bolts on the heatsink. and created a circuit. a circuit through the screws and threw the case.

So....

I await RMA for the motherboard from NewEgg. BLAH. Bad luck. Maybe I should've gone with a smaller cooler. TuniqTower is a beast!!!!

So. soon I should have stuffs for grabs.

I would rather have someone just buy all the stuff in bulk for like $100 instead of parting all the stuff out one by one. Could care less if you resell and make a profit.

2x 35gb Raptor's 10k RPM drives
3 120GB drives (Seagate and WD)
1 40gb Maxtor drive
2 GB DDR400 ram GEIL (good shit for anyone needing ddr1)
Was using that ram in my gaming computer never overclocked either

1 or 2 gb ddr333 ram (i think its only 1 gb in 512 mb sticks)
Asus Mobo with 2.6ghz P4 cpu
Asus Mobo with AMD 3700+ with cpu cooler
x800 ATI video card is an AGP card connected with the 2.6 P4 (asus mobo)
460 watt Enermax PSU

and my dell case which has a 2.2ghz celery stick and dell mobo, GFX & PSU. (personally its really old so i might just use it for batting practice instead of trying to sell it.

So yeah $100 for everything available after my motherboard comes back from RMA.

Back on topic. So I am thinking either the ASUS P6T mobo I bought had some copper sticking out of the heatsink mount holes and caused the short or the Tuniq tower is so heavy that it warped the board and pushed it back just enough to touch the case. Eitherway, it touched the case because of the burn etches on the case metal.

Anyway so now I am staring at $1500 worth of stuff like WTF mate. Avalon is like LOL @ that BUCU fag. but w/e. Guess I'll be using my stock intel heatsink. blah.

Thinking the melting motherboard had more to do with Windows 7 having issues installing than... Windows 7 having issues ;)

qft. I'm running it just fine on two computers right now, and the installation for each was essentially painless.

I bet you installed using a Sata Drive? cuz if you google "Windows 7 cd/dvd driver missing" tons of people besides myself had that problem. None the less I came out on top and got it to install and shortly their after nearly fried the mobo

I am pretty sure most of the 120gb are IDE; the raptors for sure are sata though.

In other news, I emailed TuniqTower and asked them if they had a solution for the mobo killer they created hahaha. We shall see what they write back.

I have a SATA DVD drive and it installed Windows 7 just fine. In fact, I've installed Windows 7 on Five different computers so far (4 with all SATA interfaces) with no problems. Either way, installing with a USB drive is a viable option and works great as well.

I've installed Win 7 on over a dozen machines by now with no issues to speak of. I mean even the 15-30 min install time wasn't painful (Considering XP takes 20-40 depending the hardware). As for the Tuniq Tower....I'm not really surprised these companies are making bigger and bigger heatsinks while the mobo manufacturers are doing nothing to change design specs to support such monsters. Graphic card manufacturers are going to be the first to bitch as they are the closest to actually running out of space, but the CPU heatsinks will bottom out boards more and more at the rate they are developed.

Anyway.

  • Asus A8N5X Socket 939 Motherboard
  • CPU: AMD 3700+ with after market heatsink
  • Can include 2 gigs of ram

All the above for $100. It is my old gaming rig minus power supply and video card. Would make a good server setup.

Ebay link: CPU is average $45 on Ebay used

Refurbished version of the motherboard $48.

The ram is Geil DDR400, I have 2, 1GB sticks. Average price is $20 on ebay for a single stick. Would be $40 for two.

45+48+40=$133

So for 100 you save $33 and no shipping costs local pickup. CPU and Heatsink already installed on motherboard. Accessories have been lost during my move into my new house. I believe my girl threw out my spare computer equipment box. I'll look but i doubt I have the MOBO cd so you'll have to download the driver's.

Any takers. Equipment is as-is and was fully functioning when removed.

Loltriplepost. But I put the second sentence of my post in there 'cuz it's basically the same thing if you don't realize that iTunes replaces Windows' USB driver.
