For LGA 775, the included mounting bracket w/the Sunbeamtech might be sufficient- link.

If it doesn't, Thermalright's LGA 775 kit seems pretty universal for tower coolers. The Tuniq Tower kit I had to use on my Xigmatek is rather similar though the Thermalright kit (as expected) seems a fair bit more refined- link.

are there any good heatsinks (good as in will cool well. silent is a bonus, but not as important) that will fit in my case. i only have about 10cm of clearance from mobo to powersupply above it.

This may sound obvious but if theres only 10cm of clearance make sure you don't fill up all 10 because the fan needs some air to draw from. Since you didn't mention a price range I'd definitely go for a Zalman product. Thermaltake is good as well. Definitely don't go for a Xigmatek unless its one of their upper end coolers. Their lower end models are worse than the stock cooling your cpu probably came with.

High-end Xigmatek is like $40... Well, when I got my HDT-S1283 more than a year ago that was $40, and that is... high-end.

The issue with Xigmatek, from my personal experience anyway, is their mounting. For the HDT-S1283, they consider it to be within the range of LGA 775 push pins... This led to me trying to get it stably on the push pins for about two hours; finally thinking I'd succeeded, I booted my rig up, installed Windows, then install SpeedFan. 80C idle. I open the case back up and two of the push pins are out so contact was terrible. To this day, that small bit of massive overheating has scarred my processor (killed a fair bit of its OC capability). Anyway, I hit-up Xigmatek support and they sent me a backplate mounting kit. The problem? It was engineered so poorly that it was literally impossible to screw into the cooler's holes properly so that it could be mounted... Stug let me borrow a Tuniq Tower kit which worked perfectly. Had I started with an alternate mounting kit, I'd have avoided tons of damage to my cooler and cpu and it would have been well worth the $40 and whatever a decent mounting kit would have cost.

Yea back when I had my tower I had the same problem getting it to mount. In the end it never mounted correctly but it was still attached enough to do its job. The retaining bracket would have broke from the pressure if you ask me.

The one you got seems pretty good and is pretty silent from what I read. Take some temperature readings now and then with the new heatsink and see if it improves. Also don't forget to add a new layer of thermal paste when applying the heatsink to the cpu. If you don't have any I'm sure someone here probably has some they may let you use.

Sounds like Xigmatek is crap. Shame, they had a couple decently rated coolers, but at the rate Thermalright has been kicking ass, I have little reason to switch brands when I go s1156.

If you're willing to pay for Thermalright, go ahead, xD I didn't have the cash on hand to go higher than $50 for a cpu cooler when I was buying since I had to quickly cobble together a new rig when my Asus A8N-SLI motherboard died. I settled on quite a few components (750i motherboard- granted, a kick-ass eVGA nForce 750i SLI FTW that is currently running an 1850MHz FSB- instead of a 790i; Q6700 instead of a Q9550 since the price drops hadn't kicked in yet; DDR2 instead of DDR3 because of motherboard choice and price; Antec 900 instead of 1200; Xigmatek HDT-S1283 instead of something more proven).

Anyway, I wouldn't wholly advocate slapping Xigmatek to the sideline as their price/performance is still damn good, just recognize ahead of time that you are going to want to grab an alternate mounting kit (still a lot cheaper than most other coolers for the performance it can get though even with the alternate mounting kit added in). But if you have the money for Thermalright, then yeah, don't bother.
