Censorship of User Created Content

I think this is going to bigger backlash then Sony expects. MANY people bought the game for this reason alone.
User created content has rarely been regulated like this. Why is it that people who own Spore can create replicas of IP not belonging to EA without consequence (tons of high quality imitations online). Unless they are in someway breaking the law in their user content distribution system that is different from Spore then I don't see what good can come from a decision like this.
Removing offensive content is debatable, but removing quality user generated content because it may or may not look like or sound similar to a non-Sony IP is ridiculous. Not only are they hurting themselves by attaching negativity to one of the PS3's biggest games (right before the holiday season), but they are also setting up a precedent for other companies in the future when it comes to dealing with user created content mimicking IP.
Sony is going to lose money, and gamers lose content.
How do you guys feel about Sony's decision to moderate user created content with the intention of removing anything that remotely resembles another company's IP.

the soundtrack is basically not very important in a game. its pretty good if you got it but it doesnt mean anything if you dont got good graphics and gameplay.
if you can feel the atmosphere from huffing a book then i suggest you go to a psychatrist

Because Spore is a PC game.
Guitar Hero: World Tour basically pulled the same crap with its much hyped song editor. Yet, despite that, we have had customs on the PC (real customs based off real songs with real, fine-tuned note charts) pretty much since the release of Guitar Hero 3 (yes the "custom scene" started on the PS2 but any console you try to get customs on you need to mod and even then it's still not even remotely as convenient).
On consoles, one of two issues almost always arises with this crap-
1) Because consoles are supposed to be closed platforms, developers and publishers are typically held more responsible for controlling their customers.
2) Because consoles are a closed platform, developers and publishers CAN control their customers so they DO control their customers (or try to anyway).
On the PC, we constantly bitch about DRM but yeah... the grass really is not much greener "on the other side".

I think maybe, LBP user content is hosted on sony's servers, and the spore content delivery is peer to peer. Just a guess but it makes more sense.

Ask the question why LBP would go with Sony-operated servers while Spore would go with P2P though ;) Then you'll notice that is just a periphery effect.

Well, that's kinda the point of whining, isn't it? Granted, you can do what I did and ditch the exploded X360 in favor of a better PC but that doesn't eradicate the argument that consoles do have... something going for them. Ofc, the Wii would be a much better example there...

Portables are the way to go, for me anyway. If it wasn't for my "fixed" PSP, I'd have probably gone crazy a while ago. Portable SNES and PS1 is nice.

This thread was created to discuss censorship of user created content, I put out my opinion and asked what others though.
If you don't like it, don't read it.

But it's my opinion, too! So therefore I'm contributing to the thread in a very odd way
