We have done things together in the past. We also post our events in each others message boards.

well their lanparties are smaller from what i see in the signups, and when they play games, its like 3 or 4 people in a game of WC3 and everyone has thier own litle pockets...whereas we try to get everyone in one game

I've been to one of UCFlan.com's lan. I'm not sure how many people they had there, but I think it was around 40. Some people played their own little games, but most of the people were united to play one game - by having a tournament for it. I thought it was fun.

They also gave out $50 gift certificates (BestBuy) to all the members of the winning CoD team, and a $300 LCD monitor for the UT2k4 tournament.

I paid ten bucks at the last LAN we had. That wasn't admission?
Before you criticize a man, you should walk a mile in his shoes. That way, when you are finished, you are a mile away, and you have his shoes.

There is a lot of assumptions or negative stereotypes of the UCFLan.com (CCSC) for some reason or the other that has developed on the forums here. Not sure really why this happened, but it needs to stop.

We are both LAN party clubs with similar goals in mind but we have slightly different ways of going about it as this is how we differentiate ourselves:

UCFG's target audience are UCF students, primarily those who live on campus or within a close proximity to UCF's main campus. We hold all night events with an average attendence of 50 people per event, pulling from this crowd we tend to get gamers focused on first person shooter games for the most part (CS, BF2, UT2k4, etc).

CCSC's target audience from my experience are non-UCF students that are UCF students, alumni, or friends of students who heard of their events. Their events from what I've heard and seen is that they draw a higher amount on average compared to ours. Their events are in the same location each time and are day only events. This crowd seems to be more willing to try different games as it seems they play more torwards the niched markets (CoD, WC3, etc).

If I got my facts wrong please correct me David.

Both clubs provide great services to the central Florida area, we are two organizations that has an established staff and offers sponsored events with a large network to support a great number of users. There aren't any other colleges out there that have what we have here and many people have seen this as a great benefit for attending UCF (Especially freshman during the Club Showcase / Orientations). The UCF faculity is *finally* starting to realize that gaming is the next big thing, especially organized gaming over networks. This is something that WE have changed and I think that's awesome.

The UCF NOC / Housing is allowing us to place a LAN gaming server on the ResNet for all community gaming, it will be the only place for all communities to hop on and game with other communities.

Specifically they call it club dues (while you can pay it per event or per semester so basically its admission anyways). We do not charge club dues. Infact we cannot charge club dues. If we did we would not be able to hold events in AV anymore as we cannot restrict entry for free from any of Housing's Residents. Since there is no way to tell from a resident and a non resident the only way to can tell is because if they live on campus they have to be a UCF student.

Thus all UCF students are free.

Fact being that the Marketplace was the second event we ever charged admission to for UCF students. Both times the point was to help expand the club, do something cool, and bring in revenue we can use to buy more stuff (better network equipement, food, prizes etc).

I think specifically we need to word it more carefully when we hold another one. So that people don't just see that we are trying to make money. They need to realise that any money made off of any event is to be used for the expansion and improvement of the club (part of the problem last time).

Put that way asking 10 dollars admission for 1 event (that no one was forced to goto) out of the 8 or 9 events we had held that year is not unreasonable.

I wouldn't mind paying a small $5 fee for a chance to win a huge prize afterwards.
